Every evening, Pip placed her little lantern in the window. Its light shone across the garden.

“Who might need it tonight?” Grandpa wondered. Tap, tap, tap! Something touched the glass.

On a leaf sat a little firefly. Her light was dark, and her wings drooped.

“My family is across the pond,” she whispered. “I can’t shine to tell them where I am.”
